Protesters taken into custody as police finish college pro-Palestine occupation

Police mentioned the college’s Hamilton Corridor was cleared of pro-Palestinian protesters who took over constructing on Tuesday.

The scene unfolded shortly after 9pm as police, sporting helmets and carrying zip ties and riot shields, massed on the Ivy League college’s entrance.

The White Home condemned the standoffs at Columbia on Tuesday and California State Polytechnic College Humboldt earlier within the week.

Different universities have sought to barter agreements with the demonstrators within the hopes of getting peaceable graduation ceremonies.

On Tuesday afternoon, New York Metropolis mayor Eric Adams urged the Columbia protesters to “stroll away” and suggested them to “proceed your advocacy by different means”.

He added: “This should finish now.”

Protesters at Columbia and California State Polytechnic College Humboldt had occupied two buildings till officers with batons intervened in a single day.

The nationwide campus protests started at Columbia in response to Israel’s offensive in Gaza after Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7.

Militants killed about 1,200 folks, most of them civilians, and took roughly 250 hostages.

In return, Israel has killed greater than 34,000 Palestinians within the Gaza Strip, in line with the native well being ministry.
