MANILA, Philippines — MJ Phillips overcame a jittery comeback and helped Petro Gazz score its third straight win in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.

Phillips, who returned to action after missing some time in the Reinforced Conference due to a knee injury, played limited minutes but still made her presence felt in the Angels’ 12-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-20 over PLDT on Tuesday at Philsports Arena.

“I was really nervous coming into this game. It felt like the first day of school all over again. Thankfully, my team was here to back me up and encourage me even if I’m there for a couple of points,” said Phillips, who finished with two points.

The Filipino-American middle blocker hardly missed a beat as her teammates and coaches have been supportive during her recovery period.

“Just communication and trust within the team. Constant communication will translate in the game, making sure there are no drop balls or anything,” Phillips said.

Phillips is eager to regain her top form in the six-month tournament as Petro Gazz takes on unbeaten Cignal on Saturday before the break.
