Turntable Labs’ Hangout.fm partners with B2B digital music provider 7digital to facilitate the platform’s social music listening.

Virtual listening community platform Hangout by Turntable Labs has partnered with 7digital, a Songtradr company and global leader in B2B end-to-end digital music solutions, to bring its users access to music discovery and curation of over 100 million songs. Providing Hangout with the vast global catalog at its disposal, 7digital enables Hangout users to build creative and collaborative communities through a fast and accurate search engine and high-quality music streams.

7digital’s extensive metadata catalog and streaming services is powering Hangout’s services, ensuring all music streamed to Hangout aligns with its approved licenses so that fans can enjoy music as a community. Licensed content from Universal, Sony, and Warner Music, and Merlin, the digital music listening partner for the world’s leading independent record labels, distributors, and other music rights holders, are available to users on the platform.

“We are proud to have 7digital as a key partner, providing the robust music data that powers our platform,” said Joseph Perla, CEO and founder of Hangout. “Their extensive global catalog and precise metadata enable us to deliver a fast and accurate search engine, ensuring users can find exactly what they’re looking for with ease. 7digital helps us create a seamless and immersive listening experience that enhances every interaction on our social music service.”

“This partnership brings together the best of both worlds: 7digital’s massive global music catalog and scalable platform solutions, combined with Songtradr’s deep understanding of the music industry and our industry-leading tech infrastructure,” said James Priestley, Chief Commercial Officer, 7digital. “This powerful combination allows us to empower innovative platforms like Hangout to create truly groundbreaking social music experiences.”

Hangout launched globally last month as a social media alternative, where appreciating and enjoying music as a community is central to the experience. Inspired by queuing up the jukebox or putting on a favorite album with friends, Hangout’s online listening spaces allow users to unite over mutual favorites, discover new artists alongside their peers across the globe, and express their musical passions together via the virtual dancefloor and the chat function.

This partnership is a renewed relationship between 7digital and Hangout’s precursor Turntable.fm, the social streaming platform co-founded by Perla in 2011.
